_

Consultation

To begin the process, Dr. Riano will meet with you to discuss your options for cosmetic dentistry . Tooth prep and fitting

Once you’re approved, you’ll come in for a follow-up. At this appointment, Dr. Riano will clean and numb your mouth, then gently trim away a small amount of enamel from your teeth. This thin layer is removed so that your veneers will fit into your mouth perfectly. Next, she will take images and impressions of your teeth. These are sent to a dental lab where your porcelain veneers will be built. This process takes 2-3 weeks. You’ll be sent home with a set of temporary veneers to protect your teeth.

Final veneer placement

Once your veneers arrive at our office, you’ll come back for a final consultation. Dr. Riano will remove your temporary veneers, then check the fit of your permanent veneers. She will make any necessary adjustments, then bond them in place with dental cement. Then, you’ll be sent home to enjoy your new smile.

Why Do People Get Veneers?

Veneers are one of the best ways to correct imperfections and flaws in your smile. Most people get veneers to improve the appearance of their smiles, and cover up things like chips, stains, and other things that may make them feel self-conscious. With veneers, you’ll get a picture-perfect smile, and you’ll always feel great about how your teeth look.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Dental veneers usually last 10-15 years. Over time, they may become damaged or loosen, and may need replacement. This process is really simple. During your six-month visits to Mint32 Dental , Dr. Riano will keep an eye on your porcelain veneers and your natural teeth, too. If she notices a dental veneer that may need to be replaced, you can schedule a follow-up and take care of it right away.

Are Veneers Permanent?

Yes. Veneers do require you to have some of your natural enamel removed. Once your veneers are in place, your teeth will be just as strong as they were before. But if your veneers were ever removed, your teeth would be weaker and more susceptible to damage and decay. For this reason, veneers are considered to be permanent. Once you get them, you’ll need to keep them for the rest of your life.

Will My Teeth Hurt After Getting Veneers?

The veneer placement process is painless because it’s done under a local anesthetic. However, once the anesthetic wears off, you may feel symptoms such as tooth sensitivity, tenderness, or gum inflammation for a few weeks. This is temporary and can be managed with anti-inflammatory pain medication and by avoiding foods and drinks at extreme temperatures.

The reason sensitivity occurs is that, during the preparation process for veneers, we need to remove .5 mm of natural enamel from your teeth to create enough space for the veneers. This is done by drilling down the enamel.

Once the anesthetic wears off, you may begin to feel the after-effects of that drilling, but any pain should be minimal and not last longer than 3 weeks. You may also experience gum inflammation as your bite gets used to the sensation of veneers as you use your teeth.

If pain is extreme and ongoing after 3 weeks, you should contact us right away for an emergency appointment. This could be a sign of an underlying health problem with your teeth. It’s important to get timely dental care to avoid further complications.

How to Take Care of Veneers

If you are experiencing any tooth sensitivity or discomfort following the dental veneer procedure, you should take pain medication and avoid hot, cold, hard, chewy, and sticky foods. You can apply a desensitizing gel or use toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

Rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution a few times a day. Try to reduce chewing motions temporarily. In the long term, avoid staining foods and drinks. You can also try drinking through a straw and rinsing your mouth with water after eating to limit exposure to stains.

Try not to chew foods that are hard and sticky, which can damage your porcelain veneers. If you grind your teeth, you need to wear a mouthguard to bed every night. Don’t use your teeth to open packages or chew on your nails. Practice good oral hygiene and attend regular dental cleanings .

How Many Do I Need?

How many composite veneers you need depends on personal preference, the condition of your teeth, your aesthetic goals, and how many teeth show when you smile. If you only have a specific natural tooth with cosmetic imperfections that you want to cover up, then this should be sufficient.

However, if you’re trying to change your entire smile, you will want to consider how many of your teeth are visible when you smile. This can vary from person to person, as some people show 6 of their top teeth, while 8 teeth are visible for others. Some even have their bottom teeth show when they smile.

Dr. Riano will speak to you, the patient, about your aesthetic goals and what cosmetic issues you want to cover by getting veneers. By having an open and honest discussion and discussing any constraints on your budget, we can develop a treatment plan that works best for you.

This may mean getting a single veneer or covering 6-8 of the top teeth. Contact us at Mint32 Dental to schedule a consultation.
